The State government has not yet carried out any assessment of the impact that the closure of mining has had on the State financially,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Goa legislative assembly on Wednesday.
In a written reply Parrikar said: “So far, the exact financial impact of mining industry closure on the State’s revenue is not quantified, as the same depends upon the rate of mineral at given month as declared by Indian Bureau of Mines, a department under Ministry of Mines, Government of India.”
Parrikar’s written reply was in response to a query posed by Velim MLA Filipe Nery Rodrigues, who had sought to know what the impact was on State revenue generation, and also the direct and indirect impact on employment scenario.
In the reply, the chief minister nevertheless said that his government was making all out efforts to ensure mining resumes in Goa at the earliest.
Parrikar is on record that he will hold a meeting post the Monsoon Session, which ends on Friday, before he proceeds to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to present to the latter the State’s road map for early resumption of mining.
Parrikar is also expected to hold parleys in Delhi with the Union Mines Minister and other top Cetral government functionaries in a bid to resolve the mining logjam.
