"Directions from the government will be issued in the coming days, that they (government officers) should not use plastic in a government office. I have not issued written instructions yet. Verbally I've instructed them so they may start conducting the exercise. But it is not a hard and fast rule as of now because we are still preparing the memo," Parrikar said adding that the date by when the government will go plastic free will be decided sometime in November.
The Chief Minister held a meeting of Heads of Departments on Tuesday to brief them about the ‘agenda of the government' especially with regard to the Swachh Bharat Mission, government's budget and efficiency targets.
Among the directions are to clear audit backlogs, as well as going completely digital in receiving money from the government.
By the next meeting we will fix the date, he said, adding, "March 2018 is the target given to them to go digital. As far as possible, all receipts (except where it is absolutely not possible) will be on digital mode. As on date, 99.99% payments are already in digital mode, that means through banking transaction.
"The exercise has begun, but it is not an easy task. We decided that we will target March 2018 as a date to complete it. Let us see how much we achieve. We may achieve 95% we may achieve 90%," Parrikar said.
The Chief Minister also instructed HoDs to personally monitor the public grievance portals of their departments.
