Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday made a startling revelation of a possible cash-for-jobs racket involving some government officials and warned of strong action.
“I have received around 2-3 specific complaints that government officials themselves are taking money on the pretext of providing jobs. Strong action will be taken at the earliest,” Sawant said while speaking to the media after attending a Bharatiya Janata Party meeting at its headquarters in Panaji.
“No complaint of corruption should come to me. I will not hesitate to act against the government officials who are taking money from the common people,” the Chief Minister added.
Sawant said those indulging in this type of acts will be dealt with as per law, stringently.
“Some officials are taking money from common people claiming that they are doing so at the behest of ministers, MLAs and even in my name. I want to make it clear that not a single MLA or minister is taking money for jobs. Whoever asks for money for jobs, people should file complaints against such people. Action will be taken against them,” Sawant said.
Sawant on Thursday had met people and heard their complaints and grievances at the BJP headquarters in the capital city.
Many put forth their grievances before him, including problems related to delays in the administrative processes, incompetent bureaucrats, electricity and water woes among other issues.
After giving the people a patient hearing the Chief Minister said the administration will be streamlined and issues related to tardy work at
government offices will be sorted out.
“I know 20 per cent of government servants are not working well. We will act against them”, Sawant said, adding that some people put forward the hardships faced by them due to the ongoing construction work on highways.
Meanwhile, Sawant left for Delhi on Thursday evening to attend a finance committee meeting convened by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The meeting is with reference to the State’s finance proposals to be included in the Union Budget, which is slated to be presented on July 5.
