The Pramod Sawant-led administration has taken a major initiative to clean up public offices, directing all departments to dispose scrap and waste piling over several years within 15 days.
“All government departments have been instructed to clear their offices of unwanted scrap, waste, e-waste, old vehicles, etc within the next 15 days,” Sawant said, adding that the officer in-charge of each office has also been authorised to dispose this scrap up to a limit of Rs 5 lakh.
For scrap worth more than Rs 5 lakh and up to Rs 10 lakh, these officers will have to take permission from their department heads. Scrap worth more than 10 lakh will have to be disposed with the permission of the Secretary,” Sawant said.
The chief minister said, huge amount of space in government offices was getting wasted because such scrap and waste is lying around.
Circulars have already been issued to the departments to clear it and the finance department has also been instructed to make the necessary provisions.
Sawant made the remarks while speaking at the inaugural event of the ‘Swacchata Pakhwada’ an initiative which began on Tuesday and will go on for the next 15 days until Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
In rural areas, Sawant said panchayats will be directed to conduct door-to-door drives to collect waste in their jurisdictions including clothes, furniture, paper, e-waste, etc.
Sawant asked Goans to clear such waste from their homes and hand it over to the panchayat even as he added that he will discuss with Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on the mechanism for disposing the waste collected by the village bodies.
