Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured the House to provide a canopy for motorcycle pilots who have been carrying out the traditional activity for a very long time.
“We have already started providing pension for pilots who are above 50 years old. We will also provide them sheds from where they have been traditionally operating through corporate social responsibility (CSR),” Sawant said.
The CM was responding to a Zero Hour mention put forth by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai about the anxiety among the motorcycle pilots in the State with regards to failure of the government to provide them with basic amenities.
He said several years back former CM late Manhoar Parrikar had promised to erect sheds for the motorcycle pilots with an assurance to take up the work in Panaji as a pilot project.
“This is a traditional occupation which is present all over the State and it’s unique to Goa. If there is a financial issue, then the government can do it through CSR. The government should think about it seriously,” Sardesai said.
