The State government has decided to organise a craft bazaar ‘Goa Haat’ at the Rua de Ourem creek in Neugi Nagar along the lines of the Centre’s Hunar Haat.
According to information, Goa Haat will promote handicrafts from Goa and other states, which in turn, will boost tourism.
The Goa Haat will be financed by the State and Central governments to the tune of about Rs 22 crore and the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) will organise this bazaar on behalf of the government.
The GTDC has floated a tender to select an agency to organise the fair, and a consultant has prepared the DPR for the construction of the Goa Haat.
The Union Ministry of Tourism had sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the project and had released Rs 4 crore to begin the work in 2012.
Land at Patto was identified, and the project was approved in 2012, but the State government could not implement it and decided to drop the project and return the funds.
However, the State government has now revived efforts to implement the project.
