Water Resources Department Minister Subhash Shirodkar said the State government aims to ensure an abundant water supply from various dams across Goa, adding that studies are being carried out to increase the number of dams in the coming years.

He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated gate at Amthane Dam, along with a new pumping station and guest house, in the presence of Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and other officials.

Dr Shetye stated that once the barrage work at Sal is completed, several villages in North Goa will get additional water supply. “With the new 20 MLD pumping station and the water purification project, the water shortage in Bicholim will be solved permanently. Work on setting up new tanks in the constituency is also progressing fast,” he added.

He further said there are plans to provide water for agriculture and for Latambarse village, along with a 5 MLD supply for the industrial estate at Latambarse. “The Amthane Dam, pumping station and purification project will together meet the water needs of the constituency for the next 50 years,” Dr Shetye said.
