Govt seeks report into technical glitch that disrupted play at KA

Management faces strong criticism over issue

The State government has requested a detailed report into the alleged technical issue during the performance of the Marathi drama ‘Purush’ at Kala Academy on Sunday.

The recently renovated Kala Academy faced strong criticism after a ticketed Marathi play was interrupted mid-show on Sunday evening.

Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude called the incident very unfortunate and said he had asked for a report from the Kala Academy’s Member Secretary.

Gaude added that the Member Secretary has been instructed to submit the report within two days. “I have asked for a report. We will have to see what went wrong,” he said.

A lighting failure disrupted the Marathi play Purush for around 15 minutes at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Auditorium, causing lead actors Sharad Ponkshe and Spruha Joshi to apologise to the audience during the unexpected pause.

The theatre group, which had travelled from Maharashtra, showed visible frustration over the technical failure.

Veteran Marathi actor Sharad Ponkshe later criticised the poor quality of the sound and lighting systems, as well as the overall management of the venue.

Ponkshe has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to personally intervene and take action to improve the institution’s infrastructure and management.

Meanwhile, Sawant declined to comment on the incident.
