Govt seeks to spread IT footprint across State

PANAJI

After several past forays to promote Goa as an IT hub threw up poor results over nearly two decades, the State government has come up with yet another idea to spread the IT footprint across the State -- seeking bids from owners to empanel their properties for use as IT and ITES units and as startup workplaces.

The IT department has formally invited 'expression of interest' from owners, landlords and others for this purpose.

Owners of Indo-Portuguese House premises can seek to create customized incubation or co-working facilities, according to the proposal.

Also, owners of ready-for-possession buildings or vacant floors have been invited for setting up state-of-the-art plug-n-play offices, incubation facilities, co-working spaces, acceleration centres or business centres, says the IT department's proposal.

Also, the department has invited E-O-Is from reputed property dealers, real estate agents and brokers to identify flexible IT spaces in Goa.

With several past attempts by the State government to propel Goa as a major IT investment destination failing to take off, including setting up of IT parks at multiple locations, the response to this new foray to spread the IT footprint across Goa will be keenly watched.
