Promising to take up cudgels for the Goan shack owners in the ensuing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai said Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte should protect the Goemkar aspect of the shack business since it is being run by the Niz Goemkars.
Sardesai said he would raise a calling attention motion in the Assembly, lamenting that the government has been trying to regulate the traditional tourism businesses such as shack and water sports, which have come up without any government contribution, but through the goodwill and trust generated by the stakeholders. “The shack owners have been in the business for generations even before I and Rohan Khaunte were born. The shack business is an ingredient of tourism. Instead of taking over the business, the government should focus on the traditional aspect of the business,” he said.
