Govt shunts out 7 MMC engineers

MARGAO
In an unprecedented transfer, seven out of eight Margao Municipal Council engineers, including Municipal Engineer Surendra Gaonkar has been shunted out by the government on Wednesday.
While TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai termed the exercise as a "clean sweep" in a bid to clean up the Margao Municipal Council technical section, MMC Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai has welcomed the government's move, saying officials should not be allowed to stay put in any department or civic body for a long time.<
br />Besides, Grade I Municipal Engineer, Surendra Gaonkar, the Grade II Engineers shunted out of the Margao civic body, include Vinay Desai and Vishant Naik. While Surendra has been transferred and posted to Mormugao Municipality, Vinay goes to Curchorem Municipal Council and Vishant to Ponda.
The four junior engineers transferred from Margao, include Vinod Kotharkar, Vikas Prabhudesai, Sagar Naik and Suhas Phaldesai. While Vinod is transferred and posted at the Canacona civic body, Vikas goes to Mormugao. Suhas and Sagar are transferred to Sanguem and Cuncolim Municipal Council respectively.
Junior engineer Sajjan Gaonkar is the lone exception as the government effected the mass transfers of Municipal engineers from the Margao civic body. "There's been complaints galore about the functioning of the Margao Municipal Council technical section. The government has effected a clean sweep in the civic body. Let's wait and see how the move will help the common man," Vijai said.
The government's decision also comes in the wake of reports that the TCP Minister had promised councillors owing allegiance to the Goa Forward that the government would soon effect mass transfer of engineers attached to the MMC. "I welcome the government decision. In fact, I feel that transfer of officials ought to be effected to ensure that no officer stays put in a certain place for a long time," MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai added.
