In a bid to attract investment amidst the challenges of the pandemic-induced economic stress, a new law will be enacted to give fast-tracking of the processes statutory backing.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the move to enact the investment promotion law on Thursday during his speech at a virtual event of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM).
The legislation will give statutory legs to the process of fast-tracking investments, he said.
"The Investment Promotion Act will be passed in Goa to attract investment in IT, Education, Films, Entertainment, Tourism, Sawant said, adding that processes for extending licences will be tweaked to make them easier.
He also indicated that the existing excise law, will be amended while informing that the need for excise licence holders to obtain police clearance every year has already been removed.
The state of Goa has been growing at the 10.88 percent between the 2015-16 and 2019-21 due to faster growth in sectors like mining, pharmaceuticals and tourism, Sawant said.
"Our aim is to develop Goa as a skill intensive hub of economic activity where the systems of production are enmeshed with ecological protection to ensure a quality of life that is sustainable,” he said.
Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, President, ASSOCHAM and Co- Founder & Managing Director, Hiranandani Group of Companies stated that the strong focus of Goa state in industrial sector will play a pivotal role in improving competitiveness of industries, adoption of efficient technology, making it ready for next generation industries along with Goa state driving India to become US$5 trillion economy.
Vineet Agarwal, Sr Vice President, ASSOCHAM and Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India Limited stated that Goa is a market brand by itself with millions of visitors every year. “Goa should take the advantage of this and become India’s first Smart state as a world class business destination for industries and consumers for an Aatmanirbhar India,” He said.

Goa govt to facilitate portal to
push micro hospitality ventures
PANAJI: The State government is trying to bring together small hospitality entrepreneurs on a single portal to give impetus to the sector, Chief minister Sawant said.
Sawant, who was speaking at industry body CII's tourism summit, said: "Goa has launched a new state tourism policy which will help push systematic development of the sector. This policy has been framed to offer the unique Goan experience to visitors by presenting a mix of holistic, natural and cultural locations and attractions."
