Govt to deny occupancy if big projects lack medical facilities

PANAJI

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said occupancy certificates will not be issued to large residential construction projects if they do not have in place facilities such as Advanced Paramedics and automated external defibrillator (AED) on their property.

Rane who also holds the Town and Country Planning (TCP) portfolio said, a notification to this effect will be issued by the Health as well as TCP departments.

He said, the government is also contemplating altering the criteria to give occupancy to housing projects comprehensively.

Meanwhile, the directorate of health services has initiated its unique programme to educate and skill the larger population of the State with life-saving techniques including CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for infants and adults.

The focus for this training will be students above 16 years, self help groups (SHGs) among others on how to perform CPR.

Rane said, the response time in emergency cases will be reduced significantly with more people being aware of this life-saving skill.

The first comprehensive such programme had been conducted back in the first week of December last year where 'first responders' were trained to respond to emergencies at the Community Health Centre at Valpoi, Rane's own constituency.

Programmes are being planned and executed at community and primary health centres besides the government hospitals all over Goa.
