Saying the PWD will now focus on connecting houses as well as commercial establishments in the commercial capital to the underground sewerage line, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral has said the government will repair and restore the damaged sewerage network in the city by May 2023.
Cabral further said the PWD has unveiled three schemes for the benefit of the households and commercial establishments, adding that the district Collector, South has been told to focus on houses and establishments to take the sewerage connections.
“I have had meetings with officials of sewerage and have taken stock of the situation in Margao, Fatorda and adjoining Navelim. It would like to state here that it is my responsibility to execute the work of laying of the sewerage network. Damaged lines will be repaired and restored by May. From our side, there will be no more problem after May when the damaged line is repaired and restored,” he said, adding that the district Collector has been told to focus more on houses and establishments to make them obtain the sewerage connections.
Saying the government has come out with three schemes for sewerage connections, Cabral said the households can take the connections free and make the payment over a period of time. As far as the commercial establishments are concerned, they are required to pay for the connections, while the rich section of society can also make onetime payment.
The PWD Minister also mooted sewage pumping stations in low lying areas for the benefit of the households, but hastened to add that the pumping stations will be installed if people make available the land.
Referring to the dispute between two housing societies over the discharge of sewage, the PWD Minister has warned that the authorities will not hesitate to disconnect the water supply if the two societies do not cooperate in the matter.
