Aiming to introduce the history and various facets of societal culture during the Portuguese era, the government of Goa has formulated a scheme ‘Special Assistance for the publications related to Archival Records and Translations’.
The objective of this scheme is to provide special financial assistance for publication of books based on the Archival records housed in the department of archives on history, sociology, anthropology, politics, governance and administration etc.
The scheme that came into existence on January 30 will remain in force up to March 31, 2024 and enlists Rs 1 lakh for publication of archival records and translations.
Director (Archives) and ex-officio additional secretary Dipak M Bandekar has notified the scheme that aims at encouraging research scholars to publish their work carried out purely on the basis of archival sources.
The research work would facilitate other researchers and academicians/research scholars in Goa to prepare research aids based on the archival sources and to create new arena for the researchers.
It will also encourage translations of the Portuguese books of historical importance from Portuguese to English along with the translations of unpublished historical record series from the archives department.
Under this scheme only unpublished research work will be accepted. Any research scholar of recognized institution/academicians who is an Indian citizen and is residing in the State of Goa for last fifteen years will be eligible under this scheme to submit their research work or reference aids for publications.
In case the research work is undertaken by more than one author, the amount of honorarium will be equally distributed among the authors. The research work which is already sponsored by any central/state agencies shall not be considered under this scheme for publication.
Every year the department of archives will invite applications for the publication of research work based on Archival sources. The researcher/academician will have to submit a draft of the research material for publication on minimum 250 one-sided A4 typed pages in 12 font size and Times New Romans font, with 1.5 line spacing in two sets and a soft copy in two sets.
The application will be placed before the expert committee constituted under the chairmanship of the director of archives with experts in the field as members appointed by the government with Archivist (Publication) as member secretary for considering the proposals.
