Announcing that the Labour Department will now have a pro-worker approach, Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Friday said that minimum wages that were not changed for the last six years will be revised.
"We have not revised daily wages for the last six years. Now the daily wage is Rs 307. We have taken the daily wages of other states. Delhi and Kerala are on the higher side. We are not even on par with them", said Monserrate.
The Minister also spoke about his plans to be executed through the labour department.
Private companies will be asked to advertise posts in newspapers so that the job seekers know about the opportunities in these companies, he said.
"I will write a letter to the companies stating that vacancies should be advertised in newspapers so that Goans know that these vacancies are available", said Monserrate.
Monserrate also said he will see that companies employ people daily.
He added that the labour and employment board will be reconstituted.
The labour department will maintain the data of workers so that workers get the benefits of government schemes. The board was constituted long back and some of the members are not running any industries in the State, said Monserrate.
"Every worker will be enrolled so that we have updated information of workers to give them the benefit of schemes. The workforce in the State will be equipped with cards to help them avail the benefit of around 17 welfare schemes. GEL (Goa Electronics Limited) will be assigned the task of making the cards. They will work in sync with the labour department," the Minister said.
Monserrate said that the labour department will not discriminate based on Goans or non-Goans, but will work on a pro-workers basis.
