With tiatr lovers and others complaining of hardships for want of a canteen at Ravindra Bhavan Margao, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Saturday said the government has decided to rope in Self Help Groups to run the canteen, promising to re-open the facility by November end.

Even as a makeshift food stall could be spotted at Ravindra Bhavan to cater to requirements of refreshments and snacks, the Art and Culture Minister told The Goan that a decision has been taken to allot a canteen to the SHGs.

“We have received a good response to run the Ravindra Bhavan canteen. The process to allot the canteen to the SHGs will start soon and the entire process should end by month-end,” he said.

The Minister and the Director of Art and Culture have still not clarified why the process that was initiated in mid-September was stalled abruptly. Questions are being raised why the department has not restarted the process for the last two months since the previous exercise ended in mid-September.

Meanwhile, the Art and Culture Minister has urged students to focus on life by setting goals and achieving them with the right confidence.

He was speaking at a programme in Ravindra Bhavan Margao organised by the Salcete Tribal Forum in association with the Directorate of Tribal Welfare on Saturday.

Director of Art and Culture Shagun Velip and Director of Tribal Welfare Triveni Velip guided the participants at the programme.
