Govt to start treatment for 18+ in bid to reduce Covid severity

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday announced the decision of the State government to start prophylaxis treatment for those above 18 years of age with immediate effect in the hope of and reduce Covid mortality rate Goa. 

“The government will be starting the prophylaxis treatment for those above 18 years of age. In this, patients will be treated with Ivermectin 12 mg dose for a period of five days. Expert panels from the UK, Italy, Spain and Japan, found a large, statistically significant reduction in mortality, time to recovery and viral clearance in Covid-19 patients treated with Ivermectin,” he stated.

The medication will be made available at all the district, sub-district, Primary Health Centres, Urban  Health Centres, Community  Health Centres, Sub Health Centers, Rural Medical Dispensaries as well as Goa Medical College and Hospital so that the people can come and collect these medications and start the treatment immediately, irrespective of any symptoms or anything.

He went on to underline that although this will not prevent Covid-19 infection, it will help in reducing the severity of the disease.

“One should not have a false sense of security and complacency but strictly take all the precautionary measures and follow laid SOPs,” said the Health Minister.

PANAJI The Directorate of Health Services on Monday recorded 2,804 new cases of Covid-19 from among 6,107 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Parallely, 50 people succumbed to the disease.
