PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will inaugurate a 10 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) gasification technology-based waste treatment plant at Sonsodo in Margao on April 23.
The facility, developed by GD Environmental Pvt. Ltd. (GDEPL), is part of the state government’s push to strengthen sustainable and technology-driven waste management systems. It is designed to process residual waste left after segregation as well as street and roadside waste collected from across the city.
The plant uses indigenously developed thermal conversion technology to convert waste into usable energy resources. It is also equipped with a real-time emission monitoring system to ensure environmental compliance, while residual outputs are processed into reusable by-products, aiming to minimise environmental impact.
With the capacity to handle around 3,650 tonnes of waste annually, the project is positioned as a scientific alternative to conventional waste disposal methods and aligns with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
