After two months of silence, Goa Police has declared the final list of the selected candidates for the post of Police Sub Inspectors (PSIs) despite allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process held last year. The department has also maintained a stoic silence over the findings of five committees constituted in June 2022 to investigate the allegations.
As many as 145 candidates have been selected to fill in the vacancies subject to their medical examination, antecedents verification, etc. The list was released on December 2.
Over two months back in October 2022, the department finalized the selection of 1,000-odd candidates for PSIs and Constables, the majority of who had surprisingly performed outstandingly in the written test.
The final list of the selected candidates for PSIs was expected to be released in the same month but it was delayed, allegedly following
criticism from various quarters.
The entire recruitment process faced flak from the Opposition parties as well the general public, for alleged manipulation of marks in the physical efficiency tests.
Those who passed this test qualified for the written examination held this year. The department moved ahead with the recruitment amid five panels of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) enquiring into the scam of PSIs recruitment.
No action has yet been taken on the reports by the committees which were thereafter submitted to government for further action.
Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai has slammed the government over the development.
"Even after I exposed the widespread irregularities of the mega #PoliceRecruitmentScam with irrefutable evidence, @DGP_Goa and @Goa_Cops have defied the people of #Goa by going ahead with the appointments. There’s no doubt #Govt has colluded. Will seek all remedies available," he tweeted on Saturday.
