Union Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday said the government was working out ways to restart mining in Goa without damaging environment or disturbing the ecology of

the State.

Prabhu was speaking at a meeting of party workers organised by the Porvorim BJP mandal in Gadge Maharaj Hall in Porvorim.

“The livelihood of lakhs of Goans depend on the mining sector. Hence, there is no doubt that mining activity should restart as early as possible, but it should not harm the environment. Goa is a beautiful state and its natural beauty should not be

disturbed.”

Emphasising on the importance of all-round development, Prabhu added: “The central government is investing several thousand crores of rupees to improve basic infrastructure in Goa, which is known as a tourist destination all over the world.”

“Hence, all efforts are being made to attract more tourists to Goa. The Dabolim airport will not be closed down even after Mopa becomes operational,” assured the union minister.

Stating that Indians are respected the world over because of efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create a good image of the country, Prabhu said Goans should elect both BJP Lok Sabha candidates and send them to Parliament to make Modi the prime minister once again.

Union Minister and BJP’s North Goa candidate Shripad Naik accused his opponents of having no issues to highlight. “They go on harping that I have not done development work during the last 20 years. If I have not done anything, how is it that people elected me four times in a row,” asked Naik.

“The Ayush Ministry is constructing two hospitals, one each in North and South Goa. Ayurveda and Yoga has been accepted by almost all countries in the world. One hospital in each district of the country will be constructed.”

“So far, 75 hospitals are ready and will be inaugurated after elections. As Member of Parliament, I have provided funds worth several crores of rupees to different projects in North Goa and I am confident that the people of North Goa will elect me a fifth time to serve them,” Naik added.

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, former MLA Damodar Naik, Mahila BJP President Sulakshana Sawant, Vice-President Kunda Chodankar, Govind Parvatkar, Porvorim BJP Mandal President Mahananda Asnodkar, Visranti Dessai and the Porvorim BJP Mandal General Secretary Ashok Shetty also spoke on the occasion.
