AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said the BJP government is trying to trap ordinary citizens and their money by offering them the hope of owning 300 square metres of land through an amendment to the Communidade Code. He called the amendment “bad in law” and said courts will strike it down.
“People should not fall for this jumla. I urge them not to deposit any money in the treasury hoping to get ownership of land they occupy illegally. This law will fail in court, and your money will be stuck in the treasury,” he said.
He added that the government has a history of “legislative adventurism”, making laws to favour those who break the law for quick profit.
“Earlier, similar amendments were struck down by the courts, leaving huge sums of money invested by opportunists stuck in the treasury and in the pockets of politicians,” he said.
