GPCC chief quits over Zilla Panchayat election debacle

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Girish Chodankar has put in his papers in the wake of the drubbing the principle Opposition party suffered at the Zilla Panchayat polls earlier this week. 

According to Janardhan Bhandari, a party office bearer and a close ally of Chodankar, he has submitted his resignation to the party's national president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi late on Wednesday.

"Girish Chodankar has submitted his resignation," Bhandari who is GPCC general secretary told journalists on Thursday. 

The Congress won just four of the 39 ZP seats it had contested while the December 12 elections. The ruling BJP won 33, 

Chodankar has come under severe criticism from party seniors including South Goa MP, Francisco Sardinha. 

Sardinha had attributed the ZP drubbing of the Congress to "poor decisions of a politically novice leadership" in an obvious pot-shot at Chodankar.
