With questions raised in political circles over the return of the old guard in the Congress party, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar on Saturday announced that the party will field young and new faces in as many as 25-30 seats in the 2022 Assembly election.

That’s not all. Reassuring that the young Turks will be adequately rewarded for their work in the party, Chodankar further said that many a young and new face will find a Cabinet berth in the Congress government in 2022.

Chodankar’s statement assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of resentment brewing amongst the young blood that the old guard has come back to control the party.

The GPCC Chief also took the opportunity to tell Congress workers in particular and Goans, in general, to be aware of political parties, which comprise the B, C and D teams of the ruling BJP. “We have seen in 2017 that some political parties were very vocal in their criticism of the BJP, but joined hands with the saffron party after the results. There were other parties which have only ended up in splitting the secular vote to benefit the BJP. We have to be be aware of such parties. The Congress party has embarked on an exercise to make the public aware and alert about such entities,” he said.

The Congress chief exuded confidence that the party will win the 2022 election on its own without taking the support of any party or group. “People of Goa should give the Congress party an absolute majority so that the BJP cannot lure the smaller groups and form the government,” he added.
