The Anti-Corruption Branch has given a clean chit to former Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg in an alleged corruption case filed against him in August 2016.

The Anti-Corruption Branch has accordingly closed the inquiry against Garg.

Sources said the ACB officer has stated in the report sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs that after preliminary

inquiry, they have not secured any corroborative evidence against Garg.

A Vasco-based businessman, Munnalal Halwai, had complained to the Chief Minister, the ACB and had also filed a petition in the Special Court against IGP Garg accusing him of accepting a bribe of Rs. 5.5 lakh to register an FIR in a complaint filed by him at the Ponda police station.

Halwai had also produced an audio tape as evidence with his complaint.

When contacted, Halwai said he has not been intimidated by the ACB before closing the inquiry against Garg.

He said the police have closed the matter even as a hearing related to the

case is still going in the Supreme Court.
