Green building push gains momentum in Goa at CII-IGBC stakeholder meet

The Confederation of Indian Industry“Indian Green Building Council (CII IGBC) convened a high-level stakeholder engagement in Goa on April 23 at Novotel Goa Panaji, focusing on “Driving Goa’s Green Hospitality & Habitat.” The event brought together government officials, urban planners, policymakers, and industry leaders to advance sustainable infrastructure and accelerate green building adoption across the state.

The platform enabled discussions on aligning policy direction, sharing best practices, and integrating sustainability into Goa’s evolving urban and tourism landscape. IGBC highlighted its footprint in Goa, with 9.96 million sq ft of green building space, 88 registered projects, and 27 certified projects spanning commercial, residential, industrial, and net-zero developments.

The inaugural session featured Minister for PWD, Legal Metrology & Captain of Ports Digambar Kamat, CREDAI Goa President Rajesh Sheth, CII Goa Chairman Mahendra Wani, former MP Vandana Chavan, IGBC Goa Chairman K Kulasekhar, Co-Chair Prakash Jalan, and other stakeholders.

Deliberations focused on embedding sustainability into development, adopting global green building standards, and improving resource efficiency in energy, water, and materials. Discussions also stressed climate-responsive development, resilience planning, and policy frameworks to incentivize sustainable construction.

Addressing the gathering, Digambar Kamat, highlighted the critical importance of sustainable development in safeguarding Goa’s unique ecological heritage.

K Kula Sekhar, Chair of IGBC Goa Chapter, reiterated the Council’s commitment to partnering with state governments to mainstream green building practices.

Prakash Jalan, Co-Chair of IGBC Goa Chapter, emphasised the role of IGBC in driving sustainability in Goa. The engagement concluded with a panel discussion on sustainable solutions for residential and hospitality sectors, reinforcing the need for continued government-industry collaboration to drive greener, resilient development in Goa.
