Group creates a scene, let off with a warning

The Tolleaband area on the border of Navelim and Margao Municipal Council on Sunday night witnessed an uproar after a group, claiming to be members of an NGO, threatened to assault some people after they were questioned for drinking liquor near the bridge which is under construction.

Navelim resident George Barretto, Aam Admi Party leader Pratima Coutinho and Margao Municipal Councillor Pratima Coutinho rushed to the site after they were informed that some persons, who were consuming liquor near the bridge, had threatened to assault people from Navelim.

The group, who claimed to be NGOs, was allowed to go with a stern warning that the people of Navelim will not tolerate any attempts by anyone to drink in public place and cause nuisance to the public.

George told the media that anti-social activities such as drinking in public places will not be tolerated by the people of Navelim. “After the brutal attack on Cenvic Pires, we have decided to take the anti-social elements head on. We will not allow any drinking in public places and cause nuisance to the people”, he warned.

AAP leader Pratima Coutinho pointed out that the group, which claimed to be an NGO was found under the influence of liqour, adding that people of Navelim will not tolerate any attempts by outsiders to cause nuisance in the village.
