Group of Shiv Premis seeks possession of Shivaji statue in police custody

MARGAO
A group of Shiv Premis assembled at the Margao police station apparently to seek possession of the Shivaji statue in custody of the Margao police.

A delegation later called on Margao police station in charge PI Tulsidas Naik and submitted a memorandum seeking custody of Shivaji statue.

The letter stated that the Shiv Premis have now agreed to keep the statue at the temple of Vithal Rakhumaye at Rumdamol village.

Source said PI Naik has promised to call a meeting of Shiv Samraj before taking a call to hand over the statue.

Two groups of Shiv Premis had clashed in Margao on the day of Shiv Jayanti procession in Margao on February 19. Since then, the two groups had staked claim to the Shivaji statue.

A meeting called by the Sub-Divisional police officer DySP Santosh Desai two days ago had urged the warring groups to settle the issue amicably.
