VASCO
The Chicalim Bio-Crusaders (CBC) have welcomed the decision of the TCP minister to suspend the Vasco ODP 2030 with immediate effect.
Addressing media at St Jacinto Island, CBC members said Vishwajit Rane had taken a historic, bold and wise decision to keep the Vasco ODP besides others also in suspended mode and to rectify the errors and manipulations involved in these ODPs.
CBC Convenor Cyril Fernandes said that Rane’s decision was completely in sync with the concerns expressed by the villagers of Chicalim, Dabolim and the islanders of St Jacinto who have been struggling with the planning Authorities to correct the anomalies.
"A delegation of CBC comprising Edwin Mascarenhas, Cynthia Miranda, Pratap Mardolkar and Convenor Cyril Fernandes had called on the TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane at his residence at Dona Paula. Delegation members had strongly demanded that the entire MPDA body be dissolved and experts from various relevant fields of planning are appointed as members. A detailed memorandum listing out all the illegalities carried out by the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) members were handed over to him. We showed him the various serious anomalies and violations blatantly and deliberately carried out by the authority through a powerpoint presentation. We have invited Rane to visit Chicalim village to understand our concerns and to physically verify the complaints for himself," said Fernandes
CBC member Edwin Mascarenhas pointed out various illegalities on the ODP and claimed that Reserved Forest areas and areas falling outside the municipal limits have been converted into Commercial C1 zones in violation of the laid down regulations.
Pratap Mardolkar claimed that the entire St Jacinto Island is private property and they are protective of their island and that they had earlier raised objection to the ten metre road shown all over the island including in No Development Zones and had demanded its withdrawal.
