"After getting elected, I made enquiries and was informed that the contractor had taken up the work by under-quoting the estimated price and the contractor disappeared after the works were issued to him. Unfortunately, no one followed up on the matter,” Salkar told reporters.
“We have now terminated his contract because as per government procedures, the work cannot be given to anyone else till the earlier contract is terminated.”
Salkar said a short tender has already been floated and work on this road will start within a week or two.
“We have requested the contractor to complete work before monsoons,” said Salkar.
"Besides this main road, there is also an internal road of the KTC bus stand which is full of potholes, causing inconvenience and a bumpy ride to passengers travelling by buses.”
“We have met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and placed the request for works on this stretch. We have also had a joint meeting with the KTC. We have short tendered work on this internal road and it will also be taken up simultaneously before the monsoons," said Salkar.
Salkar seeks bigger railway underpass near Tanya Hotel
VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar on Saturday carried out a joint inspection with Railway officials in a bid to increase the height of the Railway bridge and road width under the bridge near Tanya Hotel at Vasco.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said the height of the underbridge was presently restricted to around 3.2 mtrs, making it impossible for ambulances, fire tenders, etc to pass through the area in cases of emergency and forcing them to take a long route to reach their destination.
"We had asked the Railways to increase the height of the underpass while they are taking up expansion works and they had agreed. However, as they are set to have two more tracks, the expansion will be around 22 metres in length and hence the underpass road will be like a tunnel.”
“We then heard that they will make two boxes of 4x4 mtrs with a road, one each for two lanes below the bridge of the expanded tracks. We then put forth to them that having a tunnel-like road for 22 metres with a size of 4x4 metres in a tunnel shaped box could create chaos and also make it difficult to attend, in case of an accident.”
“We have now requested the Railways to give us two roads with a width of 5 metres below the expanded tracks railway bridge and they have temporarily agreed to this. We have also suggested an underpass near Vithoba Temple Shantinagar for residents and all these issues will be finalised soon," said Salkar.
