Stating that the responsibility to preserve environment does not lie only with the government but also with the panchayats and residents, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has appealed to people who have sufficient vacant space around their houses to grow trees.
The MLA was speaking at Pilerne after distributing saplings to residents of Pilerne-Marra in the presence of Pilerne Administrator Dhiraj Chodankar, former sarpanch Ajay (Amarnath) Govekar and former panch members Santosh Bandodkar, Karan Govenkar, Sonal Malvankar, Brenda Vaz and Sayaji Rane.
“Pilerne is a beautiful village with lot of greenery around but of late we find many trees being cut in the name of development. But nobody bothers to grow trees. Hence, it is for this reason that Vanomohotsav and Environment Days are being observed,” said Naik.
“It is not only the duty of the government to take care of environment but panchayats and residents also have a responsibility. Those who have sufficient vacant space around their house should plant trees.”
“As deforestation continues, we must put back what we are taking away. By planting more trees, it will contribute to global reforestation efforts, restoring lost forests, repairing damaged ecosystems and mitigating climate changes,” said MLA Kedar Naik.
Former sarpanch Amarnath Govekar said those who collect the saplings should plant them around their residential premises and ensure that they grow into trees.
“The food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink all comes from the nature. Hence, planting and preservation of trees is importance,” said Govekar. Panch Karan Govekar later proposed the vote of thanks.
