GSCPCR calls for intervention to strengthen child protection system

PANAJI

As the nation prepares to celebrate Children’s Day tomorrow, Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) emphasizes the critical need for a renewed commitment to children, focusing on strengthening child protection systems.

A recent analysis reveals that Goa lags significantly behind, experiencing poor implementation and underutilization of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, now known as Mission Vatsalya, for over a decade.

Launched as a roadmap aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mission Vatsalya aimed to address child protection priorities, emphasizing child rights, advocacy, awareness, and the fortification of the juvenile justice care and protection system with the motto of ‘leave no child behind.’

Over the past two years, the Commission, acting as a monitoring and recommendatory statutory body, has faced challenges in making progress, with several recommendations left unheeded. Urgent intervention is sought from all stakeholders within the child protection ecosystem, including children.
