Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) president, Rajkumar Kamat, has called for action into the criminal complaint filed in 2011 against Quepem MLA, Chandrakant ‘Babu' Kavlekar, for irregularly allocating industrial plots to shadow units.
This comes after Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Department of Vigilance booked a case of disproportionate assets against Kavlekar and his wife, Savitri.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference, Kamat said, "ACB raids (against Kavlekar) last week vindicate our stance. Between 2008 and 2011 the only position which Kavlekar held was that of the chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC). It is only through this position that he could have amassed disproportionate wealth."
Kamat further explained, "Under Kavlekar's term, acquisition of industrial plots for speculative purposes happened on a large scale. Many genuine entrepreneurs couldn't get plots, as
these were being given irregularly by flaunting all rules and regulations to shadow
units."
It was prominent industrialist, Shekhar Sardessai, who in his capacity as the then GSIA president, filed a criminal complaint at Panaji Police Station in 2011 against Kavlekar and few other officials of GIDC.
Kamat said, "The complaint was filed in 2011, but despite constant follow-ups, it hasn't been converted into a first-information-report (FIR). We demand an action on the complaint. We will also put pressure on GIDC to file an FIR against Kavlekar since his actions caused loss to the exchequer."
