Hotels in and around Margao are hoping to cash in on the upcoming under-17 FIFA World Cup, even as number of hotels in Majorda and Varca have confirmed that either football teams will be staying at their properties and delegates/fans coming to the state for the event have already made bookings.
Between October 7 and October 21, Fatorda Stadium will host nine matches of the Under-17 FIFA World Cup, which means that a number of high-profile football teams, players, coaches and support staff will visit Goa next month.
Over and above that, football fans from Maharashtra, Karnakata and even Kerala are expected to come in the state to watch matches. Due to this, business of hotels is expected to get a fillip.
Kamaljit Singh, resident manager, Alila Diwa Goa in Majorda, said, "We are hospitality partner for Under-17 FIFA World Cup. Two teams, which will be contesting in this tournament, will be staying at our property. Such events are good for marketing and building our brand."
Events like Under-17 FIFA World Cup put a hotel and even destination Goa on the world map. Therefore, stakeholders expect to reap benefits from hosting this event in the long run.
Shivam Verma, general manager, Royal Orchid Beach Resort & Spa, said, "We have another resort called Regenta at Varca where 22 rooms are booked for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup." Sources confirmed that team bookings for these events have been co-ordinated by the head offices and central teams of these hotels. Few hotels also confirmed that they expect more bookings from visiting fans as the event comes closer.
