Imagine, the fortnightly film club hosted by Apurva Kulkarni at Gallery Gitanjali, Fontainhas, Panaji will be screening 'My Kid Could Paint That' on September 16, 6 pm. The film which has been written and directed by Amir Bar-Lev and spans a length of 83 minutes, focuses on a four-year-old girl, Marla Olmstead of Binghamton, New York who took the art world by storm. Her paintings are compared to Kandinsky, Pollock and even Picasso and she has sold $300,000 dollars worth of paintings. However, along with fame, people also began to question the authenticity of it all. The film raises questions about whether she a genius of abstract expressionism, a tiny charlatan or an exploited child whose parents have sold her out for the glare of the media and the lure of the almighty dollar? Amir Bar-Lev spent thousands of hours inside the Olmstead house interviewing and photographing the family in an effort to unravel the truth.
