GSPCB grants Fomento consent to establish Advalpale block

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has granted Fomento Resources Pvt Ltd consent to establish for its Advalpale-Thivim mineral block in Bicholim taluka under Water Act and Air Act.

In September, the mineral block had received environmental clearance for production of 0.30 million tonnes of iron ore annually from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).

The mineral block, which was purchased by Fomento Resources covers an area of 36.22 hectares. The public hearing for the same was held on February 13, 2024.

The GSPCB has now granted consent to establish to the mineral block under the Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1974 and Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1981. 

The consent is valid upto the commissioning of the mining unit or for a period of five years, whichever is earlier.

The mining firm has asked to submit year wise production and development plan duly approved by Indian Bureau of Mines before the commencement of the mining operations.

“Effective safeguard measures for prevention of dust generation and subsequent suppression shall be carried out in areas prone to air pollution wherein high levels of PM10 and PM2.5 are evident," the consent mentioned. 

The Board has said that the daily quantity of the industrial effluent from the workshop of the mineral block should not exceed 16KLD while the domestic effluent from the various facilities proposed within the block should also not exceed 6.4KLD.
