Even as the report from the Goa State Pollution Control Board on the site inspection of the Colva creek is awaited by locals, preliminary observations made by the GSPCB team has revealed that the sample collected from the mouth of the creek was brown colour sediment settled near the shore.
The sample of the brown colour sediment settled near the shore has been collected and taken for analysis.
The team, however, is believed to have pointed out that no discharge was observed in the creek during the site inspection.
Sources said the sample of the mouth of the creek has been taken for board analysis. It is learnt that the water sample of upstream and downstream of the creek is also taken for analysis.
GSPCB sources informed that the team also inspected the sulabh toilet, which was found in operation at the time of inspection. At the time of inspection, the GSPCB observed that the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was under maintenance. However, no discharge from the STP was observed at the time of inspection.
The Colva creek was in the news for the wrong reasons earlier this week when brown colour water flowed onto the Colva shore, for two days, sparking outrage at the world famous beach.
Though the GSPCB inspection report is awaited to ascertain the nature of the brown colour water, the Panchayat led by Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes, besides Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has made a strong case to shut down the toilet block close to the beach.
