Police on Saturday detained several protesters who were part of the Congress organised 'March to CM's House' to bring the spotlight on the "government's failures" on several fronts.
The Opposition party was earlier denied permission to hold the protest march by the North Goa Collector.
GPCC president Amit Patkar who was among the protesters said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had failed Goa on all fronts because of which the protest was held.
“From land grabbing and illegal land conversions to jobs-for-cash scams and a collapsing law and order situation, the government has miserably failed," Patkar said.
He also accused the government of trampling on constitutional rights by getting the Collector to deny them permission to hold the peaceful protest march to the CM's official residence.
GPCC vice president Sunil Khautankar said: "Police have illegally detained us while peacefully matching towards CM's residence. This is murder of democracy and violation of our fundamental rights ensured under the Indian Constitution."
