Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the rollout of the Next Generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms from September 22 will make Goa’s economy more transparent and reduce compliance burden and red tape.
Speaking at a seminar on GST reforms organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Sawant highlighted how the new reforms will improve ease of living, strengthen public health and nutrition, and support the middle class, MSMEs, and agriculture in the State.
He added that Goa is well placed to benefit from GST 2.0 due to its growing startup ecosystem, tourism-related industries, and export-oriented services.
“The government of Goa is committed to ensuring that the new reforms bring greater transparency and ease of compliance,” Sawant said. He noted that the State GST department has already begun working on a transparent and business-friendly approach to implementation.
The Chief Minister stressed that Goa’s economy is driven by MSMEs, tourism, hospitality, exports, and small traders. He said reduced GST would provide a strong boost to sectors like tourism, agriculture, health, MSMEs, exports, and daily-use items for the common man.
Sawant added that the reforms will improve the quality of life for Goans and promote ease of living. “Overall, it will also boost the Happiness Index,” he said.
