GST compliance: EDC grooming youngsters

PANAJI
In a bid to help youngsters become entrepreneurs and improve Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST) compliance, EDC has trained 600 youngsters to become GST consultant.
This has twin benefits. One, the training will help these youngsters become tax professionals. Two, these tax professionals will help several traders in the state in filing GST return.
GST was rolled out on July 1 and ever since then traders have complained that there is a lack of adequate number of tax consultants, who can help them in GST compliance. EDC's initiative will make up for the dearth of tax consultants.
Sidharth Kuncalienker, chairman, EDC, said, "Of these trained 600 youngsters, we are going to select 100 persons and will help them in setting up their own businesses. The state government will give them 50% subsidy on the cost of laptop. Further, EDC will give them 25% subsidy. This means 75% of their laptop cost will be subsidised. Moreover, EDC will also give them office space free for one year."
