The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has taken cognizance of the reported woes of the Mormugao Taxi Association and has decided to convene an urgent meeting of all tourism stakeholders in a bid to work out a solution.
Following a report appearing in The Goan on Thursday over grievances in which members of the Mormugao Taxi Association spoke of their plight, GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral said he hoped he could find an amicable solution.
"We are seized of the matter and will be calling all concerned stakeholders including the Goa Police, District Administration, MPT and other concerned officials to find an amicable settlement," Cabral said.
Cabral said that the GTDC had set up a taxi counter at the MPT cruise terminal and set systems in place to facilitate smooth operations for taxi operators who have been catering to the tourists arriving on luxury cruise vessels.
"Since the taxi operators have raised grievances over encroachment on their business, the GTDC will take a look at the earliest and resolve it amicably," he added.
"Cruise tourism is an upcoming facet of Goa Tourism and it is important that the season sails on successfully with everyone's cooperation. I assure the association and taxi operators of a solution," Cabral said.
GTDC also appealed to all taxi operators to maintain peace and calm as any untoward incidents would shame Goa and result in a dent in cruise tourism arrivals at Goa.
