Goa University has slipped in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ranking this term, having dropped from ‘A’ grade to a ‘B++’ grade in the NAAC ranking for the year 2022-2027.
The GU has been accredited with a B++ grade by the NAAC with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.86 points.
The GU was allotted an ‘A’ grade (CGPA of 3.01 - 3.25) earlier for 2014-2019, the validity of which had ended in September 2019.
In (2001-2005), the GU was given a 4-star rating by NAAC, followed by ‘B’ grade for 2009-14 and an ‘A’ grade in 2014.
The NAAC peer team had visited the varsity in March.
Due to the Covid pandemic, the assessment of the university was not held as day-to-day routine of the university was affected during this period.
The NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to assess and accredit institutions of higher education.
Around 50 per cent of faculty posts at Goa University were without full-time teachers and this may have impacted the varsity NAAC grading, a source told The Goan.
It may be noted that in 2021, the GU had slipped 15 spots in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the central government of 100 best universities in India, to be listed the 96th spot. The GU had been ranked 81st in 2020.
