A 47-year-old man was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman in a resort in Assonora, police said.
The accused, Laxmanbhai Shiyar, a native of Gujarat, has been remanded to four days police custody.
Colvale Police informed that the accused came in contact and befriended the victim woman at the Mumbai airport.
During the conversation, the woman shared her mobile number with the man.
Police sources informed that the woman along with her sister had come down to Goa on a tour and were residing in a resort in Candolim.
“The accused continued to keep in touch with the woman on the phone and in one of their conversations he invited her to his resort at Assonora and under some pretext invited her in his room where he sexually assaulted her,” informed Jivba Dalvi, Mapusa SDPO.
Soon after receiving a complaint from the victim woman, a Colvale Police team led by PI Vijay Rane put the mobile of the accused on surveillance to track his movement.
Police found that he had checked out of the resort and was moving towards Panaji and then again to Mapusa and finally traced him at Tivim where he was apprehended.
Colvale Police have received the CCTV footage of the hotel where the alleged crime happened.
“The CCTV footage shows the woman entering and leaving the hotel room. We are still examining other details,” Dalvi informed.
