Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant have extended their greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, marking the beginning of the Hindu New Year.
Governor Pillai noted that Gudi Padwa is celebrated in different states under various names, such as Ugadi, Yugadi, Saunsar Padwa, and Cheti Chand. He emphasised that the festival symbolises renewal, both socially and spiritually. “May the celebration of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Yugadi, and Cheti Chand bring immense happiness and prosperity to all,” he said.
Chief Minister Sawant highlighted the festival’s significance, stating, “Gudi Padwa, celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month, marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year. The ‘Gudi’ is a beautifully adorned symbol, decorated with flowers and mango leaves, representing victory, prosperity, and new beginnings, while ‘Padwa’ signifies the first day of the phase of the moon.”
He linked the festival to ‘Swayampurna Goa’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’, urging Goans to embrace self-reliance and progress. “Gudi Padwa is a celebration of new beginnings and the triumph of good over obstacles. Let us take inspiration from this sacred festival to rededicate ourselves to building a prosperous Swayampurna Goa, contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
Extending his wishes, Sawant concluded, “May this Gudi Padwa bring new hope, harmony, and success to every household.”
