Imagine going a whole day without the internet. Well, on 25th February, around 1.5 lakh people in Goa”including casinos, hospitals, courts, and even some government departments”faced a complete internet blackout.
The disruption happened after the Electricity Department cut off cables, claiming that internet service providers (ISPs) had not paid the required fees to use the department’s poles. This led to a massive outage, affecting thousands across Goa, including government offices, hospitals, schools, casinos, courts, banks, financial institutions, and homes.The sudden lack of internet caused major difficulties. Students preparing for exams struggled, and frustrated customers kept calling cable operators. ISPs were also left helpless due to their ongoing conflict with the Electricity Department. This incident highlights the urgent need for better communication and coordination between the government, the Electricity Department, ISPs, and other stakeholders to prevent such disruptions in the future. In the end, it’s the common people who suffer the most due to such disputes.
