PANAJI

On the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant extended their greetings to the people of the State. The Governor described June 18, 1946, as a defining moment in Goa’s freedom struggle, recalling how Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Julião Menezes sparked a civil disobedience movement against the Portuguese regime in Margao. He urged Goans to honour the memory of martyrs and rededicate themselves to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Goa 2047’.

Chief Minister Sawant highlighted the significance of ‘Kranti Din’, stating that it marked the beginning of open revolt against colonial rule. He said the movement gave courage to thousands and eventually led to Goa’s liberation on December 19, 1961. Acknowledging the sacrifices of freedom fighters, he called on people to work together to safeguard the hard-earned freedom and strive for growth in all sectors.
