GWF to observe rights awareness month

The Goa Womens Forum (GWF) will observe Women’s Rights Awareness month from March 8, International Women’s Day. The GWF rights awareness campaign will put special focus on the ‘right to be informed’ and the ‘right to seek redressal’.   

The awareness campaign will cover areas of consumer literacy, health and sanitation, road safety and electoral literacy, convenor of the GWF Lorna Fernandes said on Thursday.   

Some of the issues that will be highlighted during the month are financial literacy, sexual harassment, crime prevention, lack of women’s participation in village gram sabha meetings, escort service websites promoting sex tourism, neglect of women senior citizens, consequences of non-communicable diseases, human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation, neglect of widows, impact of alcoholism and tobacco consumption, lack of access and over charging in public toilets and discrimination due to physical disabilities amongst other issues.   

The month-long GWF rights awareness campaign which will have the active involvement of women volunteers of consumer forums will end on April 7 on the occasion of World Health Day.
