An estimate prepared by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has pegged the total cost of refurbishment of the Sonsodo waste management shed to a whopping Rs 3.82 crore.
The GWMC had expressed its willingness to take up the work of refurbishment of the existing Sonsodo shed as a depository work.
Incidentally, it’s close to a month since GWMC Managing Director Levinson Martins had forwarded a letter to the Margao Municipal Council dated June 16 with a request to obtain administrative and financial approval for the refurbishment of the Sonsodo shed from the government.
While the GWMC pointed out that nothing has been heard from the civic body till date on the Sonsodo shed, Margao Municipal officials said the civic body had submitted the proposal to the Director of Municipal Administration seeking administrative and financial nod to the Council to utilise funds from the 14th Finance Commission. “Our proposal has already gone to the government for approval. We are waiting for the DMA for a reply on the proposal to refurbish the Sonsodo shed,” informed a civic official, pointing out that the Municipality will approach the GWMC no sooner the government accords administrative and financial sanction for the proposal.
