The Bombay High Court at Goa has taken suo motu cognizance of the increasing, unceasing and relentless traffic jams in the capital city of Panaji and has sought responses from the Transport Department, the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the Public Works Department besides the Goa Police in a bid to get the authorities to come up with solutions to the issue.
Advocate General Devidas Pangam, said that the court registered the suo motu petition on Wednesday and sought responses from the various authorities.
“The High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the traffic congestion in Panaji. The HC has registered a suo motu petition and the Transport department, CCP, PWD all these departments have been joined as a party. Basically the court is concerned about the traffic situation in Panaji and is trying to see if any solution can be worked out with the opinion of experts,” Adv Pangam said.
Traffic jams have become a daily feature in the capital city of Panaji despite repeated assurances from those incharge of the smart city and beautification works have seen multiple roads closed at the same time resulting in diversions, road closures and slow moving traffic. That the executing agencies aren’t able to complete their works despite in some cases beginning the work more than a year ago hasn’t helped the cause.
