Reiterating his objection to the Congress fielding sitting MP Francisco Sardinha for the South Goa seat in the coming Lok Sabha polls, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai on Monday said the Congress MP had opposed the Congress-Goa Forward alliance for the 2022 Assembly polls and failed to sanction a single project for Fatorda in the last five years.
Sardesai said it is purely for the Congress to take a call on their party candidate for South Goa, saying he does not want to make an issue on the Congress candidate.
He, however, hastened to remind that leaders do not beg for tickets from the party leadership on the plea they want to retire from politics.
“I am clear on my stand. I have expressed my opinion on the Congress candidate. No one should make me answerable,” he said while referring to a news item in a section of the media questioning his stand on the Congress candidate.
“The South Goa MP has said the people of Fatorda had given him a lead in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The MP has to answer why he did not sanction a single project in Fatorda in the last five years if the people had voted and given him the lead in the constituency,” he questioned.
“Why should we support a candidate who had left no stone unturned to sabotage the Congress-Goa Forward alliance for the 2022 Assembly polls? I have nothing to say about the Congress candidate. Let them field the candidate they want. And, may God save them.”
Launching development works in the constituency, Sardesai said he has got some works sanctioned via the WRD department since the Margao Municipal Council has not floated any tender.
Referring to Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar's statement at the 70th birthday celebration of Digambar Kamat that the Margao MLA talks to God on behalf of Madgavkars, Sardesai sought to know why is Margao crumbling and the dilapidated buildings there are not repaired when the MLA can talk to the Almighty.
